Clothing and accessories made consciously and ethically, in Minneapolis,
Minnesota.
I like to make things.
I like to make buildings, clothing, furniture, objects and all sorts of other
things.
I like to think about process, and how it affects making.
I like to test out ideas about texture, light and other phenomena full scale.
I like beautiful materials.
I like to work with materials to see what they do and what they want to become.
It doesn't matter if I make buildings or clothing -the ideas I am exploring are
similar.
UNIFORM Studio was started in 2004 as a way of exploring these ideas in an immediate
way.
Uniform Natural grew out of a desire to think more consciously about materials and fabrication
processes.
Being sustainable goes beyond just using organic fabrics. For
me the most important part is to make things that will last, that will be used
and enjoyed for a long time and that are beautiful. I strive to make simple items
that will work from season to season but yet have enough detail so they feel special.
I use materials that have a low impact on the earth as much
as I can. I try to employ low impact techniques when dying, try to create as little
waste as possible and use industry offcut fabrics that might otherwise end up
in a landfill. I also utilize local products and services when available.
